12 Questions Women Ask Before a Boudoir Session
Thinking about a boudoir session but feeling a little nervous?
You’re not alone.
Almost every woman I photograph has questions before her session—especially if this is her first time in front of the camera in this way.
And honestly, that’s part of what makes the experience so meaningful.
Boudoir photography isn't about looking like someone else. It’s about seeing yourself differently—feeling confident, feminine, beautiful, and comfortable in your own skin.
Here are some of the questions I hear most often.
1. Will you share my boudoir images?
Only if you give me permission.
Your privacy and comfort come first, especially with boudoir photography. Some women are excited to share their portraits, while others want their images to remain completely private—or they are creating them as a personal gift for their partner.
Both choices are completely okay.
If I would like to use one of your images for my website, social media, portfolio, or marketing, I will always ask for your permission first. You are always in control of what is shared.
2. Do I have to wear lingerie?
Not at all.
Your boudoir session should reflect you, not a specific idea of what boudoir is supposed to look like.
You can wear lingerie, a beautiful robe, an oversized shirt, a bodysuit, a favorite sweater, a silk dress—or even something simple and personal that makes you feel beautiful.
Before your session, I'll help you plan your outfits so we can create different looks and make sure you feel comfortable and confident throughout the experience.
3. What should I wear for my session?
There isn't one right answer.
The best outfits are the ones that make you feel beautiful and comfortable. We can create a combination of looks—from soft and romantic to elegant, glamorous, dramatic, or even simple and natural.
I'll provide wardrobe guidance before your session, including suggestions for colors, fabrics, silhouettes, and where to shop.
And if you're unsure about something, bring it. We'll decide together.
4. Do you provide hair and makeup?
Yes. Professional hair and makeup can be included in your boudoir experience.
For many women, this is more than just getting ready for photographs. It's a chance to slow down, be pampered, and start the session feeling confident.
Whether you want soft and natural or full glam, we'll create a look that still feels like you.
You’re also welcome to bring inspiration photos so we can discuss the look you have in mind.
5. Will you tell me how to pose?
Absolutely.
You do not need to know how to pose.
I'll guide you through the session step by step, including your hands, shoulders, legs, posture, facial expressions, and movement.
There's a purpose behind every pose. I look at your natural features, body angles, light, and movement to create images that are flattering and authentic to you.
You don't have to figure it out yourself.
6. Will you retouch my photos?
Yes, but my goal is enhancement—not changing who you are.
Your images are carefully edited for light, color, skin, and overall polish. I may make subtle refinements, but I don't believe in turning you into someone you don't recognize.
You should still look like yourself—just beautifully photographed.
Good posing, lighting, and direction are also a big part of creating flattering images before retouching ever begins.
7. What if I'm nervous or uncomfortable in front of the camera?
Then you're exactly like most of my clients.
You don't have to arrive feeling confident.
You can arrive nervous, awkward, excited, curious—or all of the above.
We start slowly. I'll guide you through simple poses and movement, and as you become more comfortable, we'll build from there.
And then comes one of my favorite moments: seeing your portraits for the first time and realizing,
“Wait… that's me?”
8. How many outfits should I bring?
That depends on the type and length of your session.
I usually recommend bringing a few different options so we can create variety without rushing through the experience.
Don't worry about choosing everything perfectly ahead of time. Bring your favorites, and we'll go through them together and decide what works best.
9. Do you offer albums and printed artwork?
Yes.
Your boudoir photographs don't have to live only on your phone or computer.
I offer beautifully finished artwork, including albums and prints, so you can turn your favorite images into something tangible and personal.
There is something very different about holding a photograph in your hands and seeing yourself printed beautifully.
For many women, the album becomes more than a collection of photographs. It becomes a reminder of how they felt about themselves during this chapter of their life.
10. Do I receive digital images?
Digital images are available depending on the collection you choose.
Your final images are delivered through a private online gallery, making it easy to view, download, and preserve your photographs.
During your consultation, we'll go over the available collections and artwork options so you can choose what makes sense for you.
11. Can I make payments?
Payment options are available, depending on the collection and products you choose.
We'll go over all pricing and payment details before you book, so you know exactly what to expect—without surprises.
12. Where does my boudoir session take place?
Your session takes place in a private, comfortable studio environment where you can relax and feel completely yourself.
Privacy is an important part of the experience, and I want you to feel safe from the moment you walk through the door.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you book.
You don't need to know how to pose. You don't need to know exactly what to wear. And you certainly don't need to look like a model.
You just need to show up as yourself.
